HIS 230 – Development of the United States I

Teaching sections of the American history survey at Centre College, my alma mater, this spring was an enlightening experience. I thoroughly enjoyed running my own course, from writing the syllabus, to crafting lectures and in-class activities, to reading research papers. Even grading seemed more like an opportunity to see how much the students had learned than an onerous task I had to complete. Being on the other side of the classroom always felt just a touch surreal and I never quite shook the impression that I was about to run into one of my buddies from my undergraduate years.
